Meet DJ Miles Pelky

The love of music that makes Mobile Dance Party DJ Miles Pelky the best choice for your event began early in life.

“I bought my first drum set when I was in high school in San Diego and formed a band,” says Miles. “We played at all the high school house parties until the police would shut us down.”

The first of many encounters Miles would have with legendary entertainers occurred at one of those parties.

“Drummer Buddy Miles showed up out of nowhere and asked us if he could jam with us,” says Miles. “It blew our minds then and still does to this day when I think about it.”

It was while Miles was performing with his band that he first acquired his skill for reading a crowd.

“I was seeing what songs worked for the crowd,” he says. “Back then, it was Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller, Leonard Skinard, Jimmy Hendrix, and the Kinks.” He also learned from the work of several popular local professional bands.

After high school, Miles attended community college and earned an EMT certificate. After a stint as an ambulance driver, he switched to limousines. His interest in the music scene was reinforced by chauffeuring the likes of AC/DC, Tom Petty, Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffet, and Bob Dylan.

Appearance in TV commercial launches DJ career

Miles' DJ career spun off from an appearance in a TV commercial. After playing a standup comedian in the commercial, he was offered a DJ job at a Marriott Hotel in the Bay Area. He was soon in charge of nightclub entertainment, promotions, and special events for all the Marriot locations in the San Francisco area.

Next, Miles combined his love of music with his love of travel in a job as DJ on Carnival Cruise Lines. Within eight months, he was voted number one entertainer and promoted to the company's flagship.

Returning to San Diego, Miles worked briefly as a radio traffic reporter by day, and as a nightclub DJ by night.

Eager to start his own DJ business, Miles studied the work of other DJs, learning for himself what worked and what didn't, and developing the unique style that has made him so successful.

"I think one thing that sets me apart from a lot of DJs is that I don't make myself the center of attention," says Miles. "After all, the spotlight should be on the client."

Today, Miles is one of the most popular DJs in San Diego. His professional attitude, warm personality, and outgoing nature have put him on the referral list of San Diego's top hotels and production companies.
